Our organisation

The Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs was established following machinery-of-government changes in early April 2012.

The department consists of the following two areas.

Cultural Diversity Queensland

Multicultural Affairs Queensland has changed their branch name to Cultural Diversity Queensland.

This change is effective from Monday 11 November 2013 and will not impact the name of the department. The department name will remain Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs.

The branch name change to Cultural Diversity Queensland better reflects the Queensland Government’s focus on supporting the economic and social participation of culturally diverse communities across Queensland.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs includes two branches: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs and Regional Operations.  ATSIA provides whole-of-government leadership, coordination and monitoring in policy, program and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

Initiatives

The Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs engages with initiatives that complement the departments existing business.
