Paul Walker was born in north-west Queensland in the small town of Cloncurry.
Like many Indigenous people he comes from a huge family and is a descendant of the Waanyi people of Lawn Hill in the Gulf of the Carpentaria on his mother's side of the family.
Growing up, Paul had an unsettled home-life that led to attendance at many primary schools, including seven high schools (three during year twelve).
After school Paul joined the army, was employed as a customs officer and afterwards entered the training and employment industry.
Over a number of years he worked as an employment consultant, a trainer, a facilitator, a supervisor and team leader.
Paul has worked in both Indigenous and mainstream positions in Far North Queensland including Cairns, Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait Islands and interstate in Sydney and the Northern Territory.
"The reason I like to work in this field is because I get to help people change their lives through training and employment opportunities for the better," Paul said.
"I wanted to bring the old teacher aide roles from school into the adult learning space.
"This is when I formed Northern Strategies."
